Leanne Hermosilla

Limited Visibility

Leanne Hermosilla

8 June - 6 July 2013

Through a series of paintings, text and objects Leanne Hermosilla pokes at the sometimes antagonistic line between science and mysticism. Language and naming are used throughout the exhibition as way of undermining predetermined frameworks that separate the two, especially in their most exploratory forms. Coinciding with Melbourne's Mind Body and Spirit Festival - a time when thousands of Melbournians suspend disbelief in the search for meaning - an event at the opening will invite the viewer into the work and also into some of the concerns of the artist, by posing the question of whether personal experience of phenomena makes it more interesting, partly due to an increased ability to accept or discredit the information on offer.

Based in Melbourne, Leanne Hermosilla has studied extensively between Auckland and Melbourne for the past ten years and is currently completing a Masters of Fine Art at the Victorian College of the Arts. Her artwork has been shown at diverse spaces including George Paton Gallery (Melbourne, 2005), George Fraser gallery (Auckland, 2007) and C3 Contemporary Art Space (Melbourne, 2012).
