David Mutch's exhibition From Nowhere to Nowhere considers the sense of displacement born from our contemporary urban experience. Mutch’s work examines our homogenized popular culture, which falls short as it strives for authenticity, and suggests that a loss of personal identity defines contemporary urban experience: anonymous bodies in an impersonal urban environment. Through a series of photographs, video and sculptural installation, Mutch proposes we are disassociated with ourselves and each other amongst the mental clutter of modern visual culture, and our dependence on technology.
